Overview

ASSIGNMENT

To create a pre-release NSX online hub where various pieces of mixed media content—some internal but mostly external—could be aggregated for those anticipating the return of Acura’s iconic supercar.

SOLUTION

Designing a landing page or hub where various media content could be uploaded, linked, and presented for “insiders” in a cohesive yet engaging way.

OBSTACLES

The main challenge was how to bring together various content from different sources into one cohesive, branded space. This content sometimes included external articles from Car and Driver, simple specs such as quarter-mile times, and original interactive pieces we created at Razorfish. Much of this content may not have suited Acura’s various social media channels. Thus, this page was conceptualized for the fans.

RETHINKING NAVIGATION

Accordingly, considering the disparate pieces of content, we designed an unorthodox visual, “wonderwall” navigation where all elements seemed to be part of the same, larger story. This wonderwall would shuffle and sort various pieces when navigated through. This concept gave simple specs and quotes a richer feel while giving more long-form content such as videos and articles its rightful due, overall letting small bite-sized pieces have a feeling of something larger.

IDEATING INTERACTIVE PIECES

While including much external content, we also created our own interactive pieces. One of my concepts was creating a 3D interactive “build” piece which would walk through visitors of different engineering and design features of the NSX. By sliding a toggle—from “disassembled” to “exterior”—a user could explore different levels of the NSX, including its powertrain, engine, and other parts while the car “exploded” or built itself in a fun and interactive way.
